We have been using NewRelic for a long time (more than 5 years) in production. Things have been good when we started with APM and then infrastructure.
As time goes, a few problems happened
- Setting up monitoring for any services (like AWS Kinesis stream) needed to be done manually
- Agent/SDK library is outdated
- Java real-time profiling didn’t work as expected
This is when we started to look into Datadog and everything just works! Setting up monitoring to certain services like AWS Kinesis stream once will work for every stream. Datadog open source libraries and agents that we use are updated. Last but not least https://docs.datadoghq.com/tracing/profiler/ worked as your documentation promised. To be honest I was impressed. It works magically but I know in the back Datadog engineer had been pouring a lot of effort. I started to believe Datadog is the ultimate monitoring service!
If you look at my resume, making things fast and building visualization tools are my passion. I had solve a few performance issues and I think it’s the best feeling in the world.
